The meaninglessness of backgammon results

I'm not going to go to a backgammon tournament for social reasons.
Last thing I want to interject here, hope you don't think I'm badgering you. I don't think very many people go to a BG tournament for social reasons. I don't -- I go to play backgammon. The social interactions are an added bonus that I didn't expect when I started to play.
I've been to chess tournaments and to one Othello tournament.
I've never been to an othello tournament, but I've been to a handful of chess tournaments, although none in a while. Outside of the chess, I found them to be boring and stuffy. And god forbid anybody hiccup or fart during a game.
