The race is close, so there is an argument for 8/4 6/4. It brings a checker in, and prepares to clear the 8pt. It also gives the same set of builders as 6/4, 5/1, provided Blue is willing to break the 8pt.

Keeping a spare on the 8pt, however, seems better. Breaking the 8pt to POH is fine, but what about rolls like 51, 52, and 53? With a spare on the 8pt, they can be safely played to make the 3pt.
