White is Fishka19

score: 4
pip: 136
7 point match
pip: 156
score: 0

Blue is Lyurix
XGID=-aa--BEBB-b--aA-a--bbbbaC-:1:-1:1:41:0:4:0:7:10
Blue to play 41

My immediate reaction was to go all out. Start by hitting from the 24pt so as to unstack and create a chance to advance the anchor. Three checkers on the 24pt is way too many. After that, hitting on the 2pt seems natural. Once again, it unstacks, and the double hit may provide cover for all the blots.

Once I checked the score, my motive for the double hit got stronger. White has four blots lying about, so this is a great time to try for a gammon.

Later, I took an inventory of alternatives, and came up with these:

  • K (Kill) = E (Each) = 24/23*, 6/2* — This is the play discussed above.
  • k (kill) = e (each) = 14/13*, 6/2*
  • K (Kill) = I (Inside) = 6/2*/1*
  • H (Hit) = Z (Reverse split) = 14/13*/9

I am inclined to reject anything that does not hit twice, so that means H is gone, and also that the 4 will be played 6/2*. It is just a question of choosing the best 1.

And I still like hitting on the 23pt.

Considering how obvious this seems, and how clever Dmitriy can be, I am pretty sure I am missing something...

Mike
