For the first one, it seems like we want to attack (opponent already has one on the roof) - so 8-2(2). Then it's a matter of bring wood down.... if opponent doesn't make the 3 we want to attack there - 21-9.

For the second, we need to maintain/extend the prime we have against this backgame. So 23-17(2) is mandatory. And a lesson that got re-imprinted in my brain during a chou this weekend... keep that anchor to be able to escape those back checkers and not get pointed on and primed in. Which only leave 22-10. Opponent has a direct shot... but doing so forces them off the anchor they want to maintain. If you don't get hit you have a chance to extend the prime. If you do get hit from the forward anchor it's a mixed bag. If it's an indirect hit it's obviously not great.
