Certainly, in this circumstance, in my opinion you just clear the nine point. With no spares on the five and six points, your opponent likely cracks his board if he doesn't roll a six on the next roll. If he does roll a six (11 rolls, 30%, and one of those blots in his home board), you still have a well timed ace point game. If you start monkeying around and trying to get cute, you very possibly may end up with a lesser structure and more checkers back -- thus, more likely to be gammoned. If you do then subsequently get a shot and pick up a checker it will be more difficult to contain.

I personally like clearing the nine point rather than XG's 9/6, leaving a blot. You have decent timing without potentially recirculating a checker.
