Hit looks like a must - we are behind in the race, have a better board, and mainly need the tempo to prevent our opponent from making his bar or 5 point.

As for the ace - I see the split or 10/9. I prefer the split because I think the high priority is to improve our defensive position, and there is no better timing then when the opponent's checker is on the bar.

10/9 has its merits as it start an important 9 point and serves as a builder for the 3 point. however, we don't have spares to later make the 9 point, and the only direct covering number, 4, is duplicated with running the back checkers so it weakens the 10/9 play even more.

To have a complete picture - I reject 24/18, or 10/5 and any ace because we can't let our opponent have the initiative. The loose hit is needed mainly for the tempo.

24/23, 6/1* is my play.
