As a chessplayer, I agree clocks should be used in all competitive board games. However, as a tournament director, I find it's not so easy to convince some backgammon players to do the "right thing". Oddly enough, the players who have complained to me about how long a particular round in the tournament was taking tend to be the ones against the use of clocks.
