USBGF Legal Moves Policy – Video Replay?

I agree with Phil that there will be an ongoing evolution of these rules. One area certainly includes the use of video replays.

From what I have seen, I doubt the technology is ready for the task. Many videographers, for instance, will not wish to stop a recording in the middle of a match. In other cases, it will simply take to long to back up to a misplay, verify an error, and then get the recording synchronized for a restart.

Eventually, however, I expect it will be easy to check a play using video. When that day arrives, we may find a place for the “instant replay” in backgammon.

I am reminded of the experience of pro sports. One by one, they have all succumbed to the replay. It became to embarrassing to have rules that disallow replays when all the world was watching them already.
