How would Senk and Nack do today?

I'm guessing you're calling it the "MCG strategy" because of this post, but it's a well-known strategy that I'm sure has been rediscovered independently by many people, so I personally wouldn't call it the "MCG strategy." But yes. However, MCG was less confident that he could actually pull it off against XGR+, which he described as much, much tougher.

I think the problem with XGR+ isn't that it understands positions like the one below (which came up in a real game in my playing circle)—it doesn't—but it's harder to nudge XGR+ into such a position in the first place. Maybe a cyborg (a human with bot access) could pull it off more easily?
