eXtreme Backgammon

I'm just getting back into bg, so some questions please.

eXtreme Backgammon is not a new program to you I'm sure, but it is new to me this week. I'm pretty sure the trial version I'm using now doesn't tell me everything (the Help feature doesn't seem to work). While I'm waiting for some funds to go into PayPal before getting a fully operational version, perhaps someone can answer some questions:

1) What are the XG Roller, +, ++ settings? They look like truncated rollouts to various depths to me. If so, do they suffer from the 'odd depth', 'even depth' equity problems gnubg does?

2) Does XG play backgames well? There was always a question mark over neural net predecessors to XG, like Snowie and gnubg, about how well backgames could be handled.
