i'm guessing the the correct play here is related to reducing the probability of pip wastage. I would guess that playing 16/6, with the 4 and 5 pts empty will increase the likelihood of pip wastage, and that the correct play is 16/12 16/10. I'm not sure if i would recognize this situation OTB.
