I can't say I fully understand any of these positions, but one thing to be aware of is that White's forward position (which one gets after an opening 31) has more priming potential than many people think. Thus 22/13 has the virtue of jumping a checker over White's growing prime.

This isn't the only thing going on of course, but so far the discussion seems to have focused mostly on attacking and racing, and I think that priming is also an important part of the equation.
