To answer Dmitriy's question, in this particular position, after white made the golden anchor, I'd definitely prefer having a second spare on the midpoint rather than on the 8pt. However, I'd still be reluctant to generalize this to all white's 5th rolls. What I do agree with (and I don't know if you implicitly meant this in your original question) is that putting a second spare on the 8pt is not of great value generally. If the 8pt were stripped, it would be a totally different matter and bringing two down, thus putting a spare on the 8pt, notably goes up in relative equity. I somewhat believe this could me a missing piece of the puzzle in my original analysis of the OP.
