Optimal non-contact bearoff distribution

When determining cubes and winning chances in races, I know the experts deal in such esoteric things as the Effective PIP Count, the Keith Count, Trice's Rule 6-2, etc.

I, a donkey, am interested in the simplest of such issues: What does the optimal bearoff checker distribution in non-contact races look like?
