I believe you're in the majority, at least among those who play for money (I know you've said that you don't). The Jacoby rule, in my opinion, is primarily motivated by the desire to force donkeys who are afraid to turn the cube before they're gin and who insist on playing for the gammon when they are gin to cash and start the next game.
