It's only the tip of an iceberg anyway

You are right that in formal PR competitions especially, that is the way to go--that is, you did what you did, no adjustments for what motivated you. Otherwise, we are opening up the process to subjectivity. That will possibly lead to favoritism, but will inevitably lead to charges of favoritism. We certainly don't need that kind of controversy. We also don't need any fuzzy edges on a process where one the main selling points is that it is supposed to be absolutely standard for everyone. We can still debate both its accuracy and its precision, but keeping it standard seems to be a no-brainer.
Back to the original roadkillbooks idea: I agree you have scored a coup when this happens. I agree also with the concept, which can lead to long strings of missed doubles ahead of it, which is a serious PR-killer. At home, if you know (and you are the only one that can truly know) that you missed those doubles on purpose to set up a coup, then you can knock them out and find your PR with the opponent factor removed. This will help you understand better what went on in the match. But before re-saving the match, I'd recommend putting them back. You did what you did, regardless of the reason.
Fortunately, in competitions such as the Dual-Duel where PR (or relative PR) is just as important as winning, you won't have many opponents where it's right to mess around like that, at least not when the differences are large.
Adjusting for the opponent is a good idea, but it can very easily be overdone, like a lot of things. It calls for moderation, but who gets excited about moderation...in anything?
