I agree that often there are too many side events and that directors and players often don't manage them optimally.
Some people may get ticked at me trying to have things as I see best when I am just a player, but I'll make some suggestions learned after 40 years of playing tourneys.
A couple of decades ago there were fewer side events and more people played side money games when knocked out of the event or when having a long wait for their next match.
What's happened to change this? Why are there more and more side events jammed into some ABT's?
I think some of this is bcuz directors are often struggling to make ends meet. Main event entry fees have not kept pace with inflation and hotel costs have gone crazy. This means that expenses have gone up more than rakes from the main event have. I also think that there's less participation in Calcutta's once again taking away a bit from director's.
There are fewer money games now at ABT's from what I see so that means more players to get in side events. BG lost quite a few of the free-wheeling gambling money players to poker and some haven't returned. Some that have returned have realized thanx to bots that we didn't have last century, that they play 8-10 whereas the rest of the chou can play 3-6. A few don't care, but others do and don't play or play less for money.
Some happy medium between too many conflicting side events, and not enough so that players are bored and the director may even take a loss on the tourney needs to be reached.
Just my opinions...neilkaz ..
