Side Events --about the money

Black & White used to sponsor a tour. I played in what might have been the last event, certainly the last held in Chicago. It was my first major tournament, in the winter of 1980, about seven months after I began playing. I thought they filled a bracket of 128, but at $250 a pop to enter the prize money doesn't seem to suggest much sponsored money. Senk won eleven grand, and Jack Furey got four thousand for second. Not sure what the other places paid. Maybe the bracket was only sixty-four, but I'd swear it was bigger. The event was well-publicized, including an article in one of the Chicago papers where the writer interviewed Magriel. He consented to play a game with her ten-year old - and lost.
I think Benson & Hedges was also a sponsor, and Dunhill for European events.
