PR and Gradings Report: BMS(UK) Ranking Tournament #2

Posted By: Rick Janowski
Date: Sunday, 5 April 2015, at 11:33 a.m.

Only six days after the tournament has been completed all 48 matches have been transcribed, analysed and moderated. The high quality of the field is reflected in the average PR of 4.97 for all participants. Mochy and Michy fought it out for the lowest PR-Prize and side-pool with excellent PR scores of 2.97 and 3.08 respectively. Congratulations to Mochy for winning a very close race. Commiserations to Michy, but he did win the main tournament and related side pools which is a nice consolation!

Two players making their first appearance in a BMAB event, Gaz Owen and Simon Barget had average PRs of less than 4.0, and by virtue of the fast-track route will be awarded Master (Class 1) titles and provisional Grandmaster (Class 3 titles). Julian Fetterlein, Lawrence Powell, Chris Bray, Aref Alipour and Tim Cross all had average PR's below 4.75. All these players will receive Master (Class 2) titles except Julian who will be awarded a Master (Class 1) title. Jon Barnes, who had the lowest PR from the first ranking tournament in February, and Peter Bennet will also be awarded Master (Class 2) Titles. Chris Rogers who has a win-rate of 83% from the first two tournaments will be awarded a Master (Class 3) title. All BMAB titles last for life. They can never be degraded but can be upgraded through sustained improved performance.

Congratulations to all participants for their excellent performances, making the tournament a very memorable event. I would also like to give special thanks to Michael Roumeliotis, Bernhard Mayr and Dmitriy Obukhov for their roles in transcription/analysis/checking process.

The BMAB website will soon be updated to incorporate the results and the matches will be made available for downloading.

The BMS Ranking Tournament #3 is scheduled for 6-7 June 2015.
