Friday..... 8 essentially meaningless matches where neither player can advance. Eight other matches where one player has essentially no incentive other than pride. 16 matches that have both players with a chance to advance. 40 players still with a chance to win on Sunday.

Under my alternative format..... There would be 24 totally meaningful matches and a guarantee of eight, three player playoffs. The con is that 16 players would already be on the way home after Thursday but they were there two full days and have no chance for the weekend anyway. 48 players still with a chance to win on Sunday. Today's matches would be much more exciting and no one would be guaranteed to play Saturday already like Rickie Fowler and John Senden.
