The daily surprise and fun with statistics (Backgammon Studio)

Some new stuff that has found its way to my backgammon server:

I just added something that I like to call 'The daily surprise' which is a random -0.200 error picked from the database. I am sure the error came as a surprise to the players involved in the match so odds are good it will surprise you too! :-)

I was thinking about adding some sort of visual browse of positions along the lines of the stuff I made for Bill Roberties problem of the week http://world-backgammon.rhcloud.com/problem_of_the_week_images.html so I needed to be able to generate position images on the server anyway. I would have liked to do more with his stuff but I don't think I can without his permission.

It is also generated once ever hour so that is another surprise! :-)

Another thing I have been working on is to pull some more interesting statistics from the database. In Matches/Statistics there is now a couple of more entries: https://flic.kr/p/u9WgRb

First new one you can get an overview of the most common errors that are made. https://flic.kr/p/tdtfgB

In the second one you can get an overview of in which position these errors are made: https://flic.kr/p/tdi5K3 I guess it is perhaps no big surprise that contact is involved in most errors.

Last one is in which position type these errors are made. https://flic.kr/p/tdtfe2

Unfortunately these queries turned out to be very slow so only the last one is dynamic on the free server. Still slow on the commercial server so I still have more work to do here.

Another thing I added the other day was an option to move interface buttons around. If you don't want the help button on the top level you can move it away or remove it entirely. https://flic.kr/p/tdtfgM

I have only added 4 buttons as a test for now but odds are good I'll add some more later. Perhaps not the most important feature to add but I think it is nice to have this option to customize the interface.

I suspect I have added a few more minor things too (Tore keeps spamming me with feature requests! Most of which are granted...).

In other news: The server just broke 200 registered users! A cool milestone! Perhaps not exactly big numbers compared to facebook but it is progress! :-) I see that US is getting a nice lead: https://flic.kr/p/tSVsxM with a few other counties with room for growth!

Also Bruce Farquhar sent me a link to his large xg match archive (3000+) which is great! Many more matches than I have been able to collect. Thanks Bruce!
