Surely 2 point matches are just pissing about? Play a 1 pointer instead.

That might be a good rule! "If a match reaches a score of 2-away/2-away, start the next game with the doubling cube on 2 and play that game for the match." This would at least somewhat reduce the variance in match length.

By "variance" I mean that a 7-point match could be over in 10 minutes or might take 100 minutes. As a tournament organizer, how much time do you schedule for the round? All I'm saying is that fine-tuning the match length is not addressing the real problem. Whether you play 6, 7, or 8-point matches, you have a large variance in match time.

Someone posted a very interesting table several months ago with just such information; I had a feeling it might have been you, Tom. I couldn't find it again when I looked quite recently, and would love to find it again.

You might be thinking of this post.
