I think it is pretty difficult to recognize that White has a take here because the race is nearly hopeless and it does not look like White has much shot vig. However, White does have some things going for her.

1. Blue has an awkward distribution. He has a huge stack and two buried checkers so if he rolls too many 3s and 4s then he will blot.

2. White has the timing to wait for the shot.

3. White has a strong board and does not really have to worry about her blot getting attacked. If it gets pointed on, she may just enter further back and cause Blue more problems.

It is still a judgment call to assess how likely Blue is to blot and I think one just has to study a lot of positions similar to this one to get a feeling for how likely White is to get a shot.
