Repeating 3s are problematic, as our repeating 4s, but maybe not the end of the world. First the obvious, almost half of them make the five point. [33 32 31] Second, ignoring that we don't PoH and make the 5pt with some other roll, we have more than one safe three to play as you mentioned. Now, it may not be pretty, but if we quickly roll two poor threes [63 53 43] we'll be able to play the first behind with our spare from the six point and the second we will break the six point instead of leaving a shot. The deal is kind of the same with fours where we'll break either the 7pt or the 8pt.
