It is not a bad practice to double immediately, but many people, including me, wait when I am playing an opponent that might make a mistake and pass a take (or take a pass if I have lost my market). Of course your risk losing your market, so you must be very careful.

This is also true in post crawford when my opponent does not have a fee drop and has a very low take point. I often wait and hope to get a mistaken pass, and I have gotten that mistaken pass many times.
