Cocked dice

Especially in speed gammon, it was agreed that outside of the main event, so long as the dice landed flat, even on checkers, the roll counts. My brother and I had been playing that way for years and only called the dice cocked if we weren't sure what the roll is.
If you have ever played craps, even if the dice are crooked and cocked against the wall or checkers the rolls counts...why waste time when time is money to the casinos.
Recently at a crap table the stickman called the dice one way and was overruled by the pitt boss. The stickman called 7 (bad roll at the time) and the pit boss said it was 4-4, not 4-3, which won a lot of people a lot of money.
So how did the pitt man know which number was predominant. He said that the casino rule is that the number is the number that would prevail if the dice were to be allowed to land flat. He made his call and said the call would stand no matter what, but when he slowly removed a small stack of checkers the dice fell, AND IT WAS A 7! The stick man was right after all!!!!
I'd never seen anything like this, but of course, the call stayed an 8 or they would have had a riot at the table as 8 was the point and there were several bets on the hard 8. (Not me, I NEVER bet that crap...just the pass and don't pass and back up the bets...why give away odds?)
