World Collegiate Backgammon Championships announced

With support from Mochy and encouragement from several benefactors who have pledged to support the program in the future, we have established the World Collegiate Backgammon Championships.

We have a concept, a goal, venues for competition, and we believe the best way to make something happen is to "just do it."

We will be inviting the cooperation and involvement of backgammon federations, independent promoters, and all who love the game and believe it is important to bring new, young people into the game. We also believe there will be a "ripple effect" to families, faculty and the general public as a result of the publicity and excitement created by this competition.

We are confident that we will be able to provide both travel funds and scholarships to students to compete both live and on line (major on line events will be monitored) and within a few years we hope to have thousands of college students around the world competing regularly.

Mochy and I will be offering free seminars in a dedicated room on Safe Harbor Games and on Backgammon Ace as well as providing teaching videos and group seminars for interested students. We will work with associates in countries around the world to bring backgammon and backgammon clubs into colleges, just as we were able to do successfully to 27 major universities in the USA when we dedicated time and resources to a similar project a few years ago.

For more details, and to donate to the scholarship fund, go to gofundme.com/ehgb2v38. (All funds will go to pay student's expenses and provide scholarships. Mochy and I and others recruited will work strictly as non-paid volunteers...in fact, both Mochy and I have pledged to personally contribute to the scholarship fund.)

Our plan is to have the infrastructure in place within the next 6 months and to host an international championship competition within the next 18 month, providing significant scholarships to the winners to help cover their college expenses and encourage their continued backgammon participation.

We look forward to the enthusiastic and positive support of the backgammon community and we ask you to be patient with us as it will take some time to get all of the infrastructure and resources in place to make this a reality. We believe a project of this scale will also encourage generous financial and sponsorship support from both donors and sponsoring companies.
