Alas, I suspect that modification of the Elo Formula (more specifically the Elo points at stake in the match) will not provide any magical fix to the inherent problem of high variance in backgammon win-rate. My understand is that all Elo systems, live and online, are closely based on Kent Goulding's original Backgammon Elo-based rating System.
