I guess you probably didn't expect an answer from Bob. If he doesn't agree with the US position here, and states this, he might invite further scrutiny from the tax authorities, which might be unwelcome even for an honest taxpayer. If he does agree with it, then stating so would seem to be critical of any gamblers he might be acquainted with who may not be disclosing such income.

Of course, here in the UK the situation is simple for gamblers: private individuals profit's from gaming are ignored for tax purposes. I guess the US position, along with the ban on internet gambling, is all part of living in 'the land of the free'!
