If we leave a blot on the 8pt, it will be vulnerable to 8 shots: 62, 53, 52, and 51. Continuing to the 2pt would leave 12 shots (and a misplaced checker). My choice is to stay on the 8pt.

Well, maybe after you saw the number of hits favored staying outside you dropped the comparison, but there are quite a few other reasons to prefer staying on the 8-point, such as avoiding all of their hit+covers, causing them to give up their anchor with some of their outside hits, and giving us a start on the 5th point of the prime (which may be hard to complete, but I think we'll accept at least having the option with the right upcoming roll sequences).
