The problem with any plays other than hitting loose is that all plays well. When you hit loose, at least the entering 6s are not great.

The way I apply the bold vs safe criteria is: first I make a list of plays I would like to make for long-term positional reasons; then I apply the bold vs safe criteria to assess whether I can afford to make any bold play I might want to make.
