Magriel's safe vs bold criteria favor the bold play here. No need to play defense when this far behind in the race and white's board is non-existent.

Also, at 5aC it's basically DMP. Hit first and ask questions later.

Not at all surprised to see the hitting play on top, although I'd be tempted to slot both five points. Score would tilt it towards hitting on the 18 point. bar/20 9/5* might do better at a "normal" score. I'll take a look...
