I far prefer the graphics in #3.

There are reasons many may find the positions in Challenges #1 & 2 hard to "see," and it's a very common problem you see more and more at tournaments these days with all the customized boards. You've got three 'accent colors' on the board, and then checkers that don't match either point. That's way too much variation for the eyes to process -- 5 different 'colors' in all.

I always recommend to people that they choose only 2 accent colors (colors other than black/white/cream/tan), and make one of the point colors match one of the checker colors.

Boards with only one accent color can be particularly elegant -- I'd point to ray Fogerlund's Mustafa board as a great example of that: Black and Cream checkers on Black and Green points, on a neutral off-white field. Super easy to look at.
