Daily Gammon is trying an experiment called Double Repeat backgammon (DRBG). You can read the details to see how it works.
It all makes sense to me, up to the part where the author says, "An interesting feature of Double Repeat Backgammon is that we can ditch the Crawford rule. And I will leave you to work out the maths for yourselves, but it turns out that both players can effectively use the doubling cube."
The signal-to-noise ratio on BGO is much much higher than on the DG message boards, where the explanations have been rubbish, so I am hoping someone here can explain why the Crawford rule is unnecessary in DRBG.
