The value of the slot is twofold. A builder/attacker for the 3 point; it gives good 4s to attack. And for priming - the 4 numbers that make the 6-prime, plus the 2s that switch to the contiguous 5-prime. The 5-prime will be stronger after any follow-up attack on the blot, plus it will block 4s which must play inside white's home board and may cause it to crack sooner; 6s will otherwise be killed in a moment.

But still, these benefits seem small in comparison with the huge gammon risk by slotting. No slot for me.

P.S. Petko is just the kind of guy to slot this.
