BTW, it helps to have a gut-feel before you do a calculation. Often when the calculation is far from the gut, you get an indication you screwed up the calculation.
Mm...if you have a good enough feel you usually don't need to do a calculation.
For example: I know I've looked at this score before and I know it is very very close to money play on initial cubes. I'm also pretty sure that that is not the case on recubes. I don't remember what is going on with 4-cubes at this score, but it doesn't really matter yet.
I don't usually do any kind of ME calculations unless there is a chance that 4 or more points will be on the line (and even if someone recubes me to 4 and it's a trivial take or trivial pass it often doesn't matter).
Of course OtB, if you can even do one of these in your head, there isn't usually additional time to repeat.
If you only do these zero, once, or twice a match, there is usually sufficient time to take a couple of minutes to make sure you have everything right.
