Better Backgammon Emotionality

Christian, you make an excellent point about anti-whiners. When I first made the decision to never complain about a roll (about 20 years ago) I became very angry whenever anyone else did. In time I learned that not everyone has my values and many people who bitch about their luck are not really telling me that I am only winning because I am lucky...they're not thinking about me at all. Many of these people are just in the habit of bitching all the time. They have convinced themselves that they truly are unluckier than everyone else in the universe, and every time they sit down to the table all they see is their bad rolls and their opponent's good ones. It is IMPOSSIBLE to reason with these people or shut them up without being as insulting as they are.
One person I have played for years sincerely believes he dances on a 1 point board more than anyone else in the world. So when we play now, I pay him 2 points whenever he does (and 1 point whenever he dances on a 2 point board) and he does the same for me. Instead of trying to convince him that he doesn't dance any more than I do, or anyone else, I have proven to him that I believe what I say by betting him.
Over the many years, we are, of course, about even on who pays who. But if you ask him, he will tell you that he has won lots of money from me on this bet!
You just can't use logic with people who believe they roll bad, or that the bots always roll what they want. It's like trying to convince someone not to be a Conservative Republican--there's just no logic involved.
