How to start and run a backgammon club

If anyone wishes to start a backgammon club, my advice is:

1. Read Bill Davis’s excellent article “Tips on Forming and Operating a Local Backgammon Club”. It can be found at: http://www.bkgm.com/articles/FormingABackgammonClub/ 2. I invite you to study the web site I created for my Durham/Chapel Hill, North Carolina club: http://home.roadrunner.com/~kenlarsen/backgammonclub.htm I feel it’s a good format that others should copy. Our weekly tournament is modeled after the ABT’s “Last Chance” event, a format I’ve become very familiar with. :-) 3. Email me if you want a copy of our recent newsletter. Its format should also give you some good ideas.

I began my club two years ago from the ashes of a previous MeetUp based group. We’ve met every week since then … slowly building up from 2-3 people per meeting to an average of 8 now. I would like to some day rival Bill Davis’s 40 per meeting.

Email me any questions you might have. I’ll also be at the Atlanta ABT event. You can find me entered in the Last Chance.

I thank Bill Davis and Phil Simborg for the copious and sage advice they have given me. I also thank Phil for the compliment he gave our club in his response to a recent question about why there was no club in Pittsburgh.
