Depends on your answer to: "Who's your audience?"
If your audience is you, do what you want. If your audience is those intense students of the game who don't mind (or do relish) acronyms and jargon, go for it. But if your audience is novice or intermediate players, or casual players or readers, or advanced and expert players who can't or won't learn your vocabulary, I think much of the in-group terminology is being lost on many glazed eyes. Perhaps my own bias colors my idea of what those behind glazed eyes think. Perhaps I'd feel differently if such language had been an expected part of what the novice Me was supposed to have learned. I did learn chess algebraic notation and whatever the other system is called, but they seem intuitive and essential. D, P, R S and even $ for the other S -- ok so far, that did take only a minute or two to memorize. Many of the other abbreviations don't seem nearly as intuitive. Since I'm reading in a group where many writers enjoy using an expansive jargonology, I'll play along to a point. But since I don't have a need to use it daily (it'd be useful in a position naming schema, but I don't need that now), I'm not motivated to change some of my ways. What's "W"? It's "wild." And what's "wild"? A play that slots and splits. I had to look that up. I'll probably have to look it up again in July. When Nack posts his rollout summaries, he always posts an extensive explanation of all the abbreviations. And I appreciate that, because I find I usually need to refer to it to refresh my memory.
