"My answer is the flipside question: "what harm occurs if a player touches a checker when it's his/her turn to move?" Maybe there's a legitimate reason for barring someone from touching a checker (again, when it's his/her turn). If so I'd like to hear it."

The opponent is also thinking about the position.
