Steve, I'm glad you mentioned that previous thread. I liked Tom Keith's answer and approach there, but as you intimate several others did not agree with him.

The gist of Tom's position there was, citing ABT rule 4.9, that you can't resign a match, you can resign a game, including potentially match-ending games, but the resignation of a game is not final until both players have agreed to how many points are being resigned and the new match score has been agreed to and tallied.

Reasonable people can disagree with Tom and hold that the rule's prohibition against "settling" matches and its requirement that they be played to the posted match length does not prohibit "resigning" them, and that the "conceding ... a single game, gammon or backgammon loss" phrase does not mention the necessity of an agreement on the score. I only know what Steve did, and what I and my opponents have done in practice, on both ends of an erroneous match-ending resignation.
