How about this one?
Player A is in a fight for his life; he is in a close race to save gammon. Finally he prevails and reaches a position where he avoids the gammon (but he hasn't actually taken of any checkers off yet). For some reason, perhaps because he was so focused on the gammon, he misspeaks and says "I resign gammon." When it is time to write the score down he says, "Did I say gammon? I meant single." Can B insist that A's gammon resignation stand?
If it makes a difference to your answer, distinguish between the following cases:
(a) A is on roll; he has all his checkers home and no gaps in his home board.
(b) A has rolled double 6's and his only legal play requires him to take off a checker.
(c) A has rolled 5-4. He has one outside checker on the 8-point and the other fourteen checkers are on points 5, 3, 2, and 1. He can avoid gammon if he realizes that playing the 4 first allows him to use the 5 to bear off.
