MWC difference should eliminate all the "luck," whereas variance reduction won't eliminate all the "luck." In that sense it's a more "accurate" measure of skill. (Note scare quotes everywhere.)
Of course MWC difference doesn't account for a "lucky game" in the sense that I am faced only with decisions that are easy or that I am good at making accurately. But no method that I can think of can account for that kind of "luck."
