Someone who goes by the name of 'Jelly' shouldn't call anyone an idiot.
I'm not sure what backgammon misses more, someone with Obolensky's vision + promotion capabilities, someone with Edwin Shake's writing abilities, or the age where board games could still capture human intellectual interest.
Here is a (IMO) provocative phrase from the article that takes me back in time:
Having croupiers with Beatle haircuts and British or Continental accents...
This was 1964, when the Beatles' popularity rushed across the Atlantic faster than the (then novel) SST: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Supersonic_transport#History
Will young backgammon players of today look back on the decade beginning 2010 with such fond memories?
Anyone with a respect for the 20th Century history of the game should read this article. Thanks, Daniel.
