Now this is interesting. I see three candidates: Let's begin by rejecting anything that does not make the 5pt. Then the question is simple. Should we leave two fly shots or just one?
- 8/7*/5, 6/5
- 8/7*(2), 6/5(2)
- 8/7*(3), 10/9
I sure do like the idea of blocking sixes from the 1pt. But just last turn, we eshewed making the 4pt due to "gammon-save-like" considerations. Why should those considerations not apply here?
One big difference is risk. The two fly shots total to only 8 numbers (5 unblocked ways to roll 8, and 3 ways to roll 10). Compare this with the 3 shots that hit on the 10pt when we leave the 8pt made.
If we do not leave the 8 shots now, White will surely split his rear checkers next time. Then it will be impossible to leave any blot outside that is any safer. I say go for the gusto.
My vote: 8/7*(2), 6/5(2)
