The ethics of the OLM

I am sure that we will read various opinions on the question, but here are my two cents :

I always first look at the position only and play my decision in my head (OK, writing it down on paper would be even better). Then I go to see what others have written. Then I write down my opinion on the decision, together with my original decision, even if the other posts have made me change my mind, and even if the other posts have mentioned a move that I hadn't even seen.

I like it that way, even if I can see the value of writing without seeing the other posts. I personally prefer to avoid an ad nauseam repetition of details, and also to have the chance of commenting on features of the position that I had failed to consider.

I don't think it does much good if one allows oneself to change one's play after consulting the other posts. It might even not be an improvement in the quality of the voted decision. Although the analogy is not perfect it reminds me about one experiment when people had to guess about the length or weight of something. When each person could answer independently the average came very close to the correct value. When they knew the average of the others who have voted before them, the guesses were much worse, because the values tended to anchor around what the first two or three voters said.

In our case, the scenario would be the following : giant number one votes first, lemmings 2-6 follow the leader, giant number two votes for another play and calls everyone a donkey, the last lemmings are not enough to flip the vote. If giant number 2 was right, we might sometimes end up with a blunder that few people would have voted for.

As for any bot consulting, I hope everyone will agree that it is off limits, unless the title of the post says "bot info".
