True, but you still have a best 5-point board in the latter case, while you only have a 4-point board, in the first case. The first case is much more likely to lose the game or lose the gammon, after a hit. But,another factor in favor of the latter occurs after leaving a shot- any 6, other than 6-1, leaves a repeat shot.
If you think about optimal bear-in technique while your opponent is on the bar, with a 24-point anchor, you usually try to get your spares on the middle points, unless there is good reason to hold the prime longer, such as forcing your opponent to crack his board, which is not the case here. I think getting your spares off the 6-point will leave you less likely to leave a shot that could lose the game and/or the gammon.
