What do you suppose the commentators logic was?

Commentators' logic -- isn't that an oxymmoron?

It usually goes like this: "They need two scores to tie; it doesn't matter which order they achieve those. If they go for the TD now and miss they still need two scores but if they take the "sure" FG they subsequently need only one score. It's obvious -- kick the FG."

BTW, this is also the thinking of most coaches, including Cincy's Marvin Lewis. And he as the added incentive that people (including the owner who will decide his future) are less likely to second guess "conventional wisdom" of all the 'great' coaches of the past.
