I think 'limping' is specifically calling the BB. If the betting procedes:

UtG: call (that's a limp)

next player: raise

player after that: call

this later call is not a limp.

Stick, I don't know if you meant that (or if you even agree -- guess I'll hear about it if you don't :) but it sounded from your post that since this later call was preflop, you considered it a limp.
