IF (big if?) there existed a large unbiased database of matches, you could certainly look at this situation from a purely empirical viewpoint. Someone like Xavier could also build a bot-v-bot experiment.

Would the answer be the same, though? A big question in my mind is: "how many players who build the big lead toss out equity by going (too) conservative?" On the flipside you could ask "how many trailers in the big hole throw out equity by playing too aggressively?" And of course you could ask other questions regarding the frailty of human strategists.
